Handicaps / Measuring

Handicaps are to level the playing field on dog sizes. 

Here's how AKC lists the handicap per size. 

• under 12" = 2 handicap
• 12" - under 18" = 1.5 handicap
• 18" and over = 1 handicap

Not all Wickets look the same but they all resemble this similar shape and do the same job.

Locating the highest point of the scapula (withers) without otherwise touching the dog, the wicket is moved from the rear area forward to the withers. Both legs of the wicket must make full contact to the surface and/or crossbar to the withers for an accurate measurement.

If you have a small dog it's recommended you have their size checked. You could be leaving points behind unless you know for sure. It would be a shame to get an invitation to the Invitational and find out there your dogs points are incorrect and you can't stay and play.
